Myth 1: You Should Dry Out Your Pimples

Truth: Over-drying the skin can actually trigger it to produce more oil, exacerbating breakouts. While spot treatments can be drying, it's vital to keep the rest of your skin hydrated with a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer.

Myth 2: Sunscreen Causes Breakouts

Truth: While thick, heavy sunscreens can clog pores, skipping sunscreen is worse, especially if you are using acne treatments like retinoids or AHAs which increase sun sensitivity. Look for lightweight, oil-free, or gel-based sunscreens labeled "non-comedogenic."

Myth 3: Toothpaste is a Good Spot Treatment

Truth: Toothpaste contains ingredients like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and alcohol, which can dry out a pimple, but they are also highly irritating to the skin and can cause burns or severe dryness. Stick to proven spot treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
