Understanding Injectables

Both Botox and dermal fillers are minimally invasive, cosmetic treatments given through injections, usually in a doctor's office. However, they work in completely different ways and are used to treat different types of aging concerns.

What is Botox?

Botox (and other neurotoxins like Dysport) works by temporarily paralyzing or relaxing the underlying muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles—the wrinkles that form from facial expressions. It is most commonly used for forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), and crow's feet.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, are gel-like substances (often Hyaluronic Acid) injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours. They are typically used for static wrinkles (wrinkles visible even when the face is at rest), plumping lips, and enhancing cheekbones.

Can They Be Used Together?

Yes! In fact, combining Botox and fillers is often recommended for comprehensive facial rejuvenation, sometimes referred to as a "liquid facelift."
